British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's planned visit to Japan later this month has been called off.
The Japanese and British governments decided to cancel the visit in light of the ongoing tensions in Ukraine and the British government's announcement that it is considering sending more troops to support the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) alliance.
Johnson is under intense pressure in the UK. There are growing calls for his resignation over parties held at his official Downing Street residence during a coronavirus-related lockdown. These domestic political troubles are believed to have also played a part in the decision to nix the trip.
