THE UK Government has published an “indicative” long list of US products that may be subject to retaliatory tariffs.
It comes after US president Donald Trump slapped a 10% tariff on US imports of UK goods as he confirmed sweeping import levies on countries across the world, hailing America’s “declaration of economic independence”.
Now, the Labour Government has published a 417-page list of US goods that could be affected by retaliatory tariffs and opened an online consultation.
In its news release, the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) said UK companies are “being invited to give their views on what any future UK response should look like” – including providing feedback on the average value of their US imports and the impact the tariffs will have..
The department said the fact that an item is on the 417-page list “does not mean that it will appear in any UK tariff response, should the UK choose to impose tariffs on US goods at all”.
But it’s certainly a long list – ranging from travelling circuses and cheese to binoculars and bourbon whiskey.
