Parts of the UK are set to be hit by heavy snowfall, with new weather maps showing a wintry blast sweeping across the south of England. Forecasts indicate that on Sunday, March 2, a widespread snowfront will cover multiple counties, bringing accumulations to various areas.
According to WXCharts, the snow will primarily affect the north and west of England, with flakes beginning to fall in the early hours of Sunday. Initially, the snowfall will concentrate over Wales and the southwest before spreading further across the UK throughout the day.
This comes after a recent snowfall blanketed parts of the country last weekend, and now, meteorologists predict further icy conditions in early March. The heaviest accumulations are expected in higher regions, where several centimeters of snow could settle.
The Met Office’s long-range forecast, covering the period from Saturday, February 22, to Monday, March 3, highlights a trend of wet and windy conditions across the UK.
“Frontal systems are likely to continue spreading across the UK from the Atlantic, bringing spells of rain to many parts,” the forecast states.
“The heaviest and most prolonged rainfall is expected in western and north-western areas, particularly over higher ground, with much lower totals in the east and southeast.”
Despite the potential for snowfall on March 2, the Met Office also warns that temperatures may be above average at times throughout this period, reducing the likelihood of long-lasting snow cover in lower-lying regions.
Looking ahead to the period from Tuesday, March 4, to Tuesday, March 18, forecasts suggest that unsettled conditions will persist across the UK.
“Spells of rain and strong winds will spread across the UK at times,” the forecast adds. However, there is some hope for drier and more settled weather developing by mid-March.
