Following a summit of European leaders in London, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a new deal to assist Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. The plan includes providing £1.6 billion ($2 billion) of UK export finance for Ukraine to purchase over 5,000 advanced air defense missiles, to be manufactured in Belfast, Ireland. Starmer emphasized that this support is crucial for safeguarding Ukraine's critical infrastructure.
In addition to the defense deal, leaders at the summit agreed to maintain economic pressure on Russia and continue supplying military aid to Ukraine. Starmer stressed the importance of upholding Ukraine's sovereignty and security, asserting that Ukraine must have a seat at the negotiating table.
Starmer revealed plans to establish a 'coalition of the willing' among countries to defend the peace agreement in Ukraine, with commitments to provide military support. He emphasized the need for Europe to take the lead in these efforts, with strong backing from the United States.

While acknowledging the necessity of involving Russia in any potential peace agreement, Starmer asserted that Moscow should not dictate the terms of security guarantees. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that Ukraine negotiates from a position of strength.
Starmer's proactive approach underscores the commitment of the United Kingdom and its European allies to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia and work towards a lasting peace in the region.
