Vijayawada Municipal Corporation stated that the 45-year-old underground drainage worker Meda Manikyala Rao who died on July 15, 2023, in Badavapet of the city had accidentally fallen into the manhole while cleaning it using an Airtech Machine.
Following a report on the plight of UGD workers and manual scavengers published in these columns, VMC’s Executive Engineer issued a clarification on Friday stating that the worker did not enter the manhole but slipped into it.
