'UFO' spotted in sky during Coronation as 'mystery object' seen above Red Arrows

A photographer who was working during Saturday's Coronation has snapped a picture of a 'UFO' soaring through the sky above the Red Arrows.

Simon Balson, 59, spotted the strange object as he was taking pictures of the display and claims he has 'no idea' what it is, but there has been 'lots of unexplained sightings' in the East London area recently.

The weather meant the Red Arrows display had to be scaled down but it didn't stop Simon from snapping some great pictures. One of these features a small object hovering just above them, prompting some speculation about what the mystery thing could be.

Due to bad weather, he did not check the photos until after the celebrations, but quickly spotted the unusual object in one frame.

He said: "I was shooting some photos from the 13th floor of my apartment building in Limehouse while the red arrows did their fly-over.

"The weather was bad so there were no birds in the air, and I couldn't really see the planes so I didn't check the photos until later.

"When I did though I spotted this weird object and just thought 'what the hell is that'.

Simon continued: "I enhanced the image and tried to increase the spec to see what it was, it looks like a floating acorn or something.

"All I could get is that it had a little bit of a red top, but I just have no idea what it could be.

"There have been lots of strange 'UFO' sightings recently, so I thought other people might be able to guess what it was."

The Mirror reports that the grim weather did not stop Brits and tourists from descending on Central London to witness the first coronation since the late Queen Elizabeth II was crowned 70 years ago.

But many royalists were left disappointed as the Mall was closed off for well over two hours due to crowd control reasons.

One woman, who had travelled all the way down on the nightbus from Scotland, said that the police officers directing them had 'no idea' what was going on.

Many were forced to head towards Hyde Park or the St James' Park area - nowhere near the procession. Others took shelter in jam-packed pubs.

Earlier in the morning, a small amount of protesters holding placards saying 'not my King' were spotted in different parts of Central London.

A number of people were arrested near Trafalgar Square where a white van loaded with hundreds of 'not my King' placards were confiscated by officers.
