UFC star Paddy Pimblett delights fans with "not Tories" claim after latest win

Paddy Pimblett insists he won't let his success go to his head - because he's not a Tory.

The UFC lightweight earned his second victory in the promotion with a first-round submission of Kazula Vargas in London on Saturday night.

The Liverpudlian has quickly become a fans' favourite - but is confident his background will prevent him going off the rails.

"I'm from Liverpool... we're not Tories, we don't get ahead of ourselves," he said when asked how he would stay grounded.

"My city keeps me grounded. I hope I do end up earning as much money as Conor McGregor and no child from my city will ever eat from a food bank ever again.

"I mean I’m going to give back to my city. Something I’ve been planning on doing the past few months is to start my own charity and I think after this fight I’m going to get it done."

Fans were quick to praise his attitude with one saying: "What an ambassador for Liverpool. Delivers a top performance, mentions Anfield, tribute to his mate, YNWA, calls out the Tories and gives a justice shout. This fella is the real deal."

Another added: "Good to see Pimblett remembering Hillsborough, I share the same sentiments regarding the Tories."

Pimblett, a Liverpool fan, was visited by Everton and Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney after his win.

Toffee Molly McCann, who earned a stunning KO earlier in the night, also received praise from the Derby manager.

"I've been seeing what you've been doing so I had to come," said the former England striker.

Pimblett and McCann had another reason to celebrate after being named as two of nine fighters who earned a $50,000 bonus for their stoppage wins.
