UFC star Max Holloway calls out Gervonta Davis for Conor McGregor-style fight

Max Holloway has called out Gervonta Davis for a boxing fight as he plots a switch from the UFC.

Davis is considered one of the biggest rising stars in the world of boxing, a status he cemented further after dispatching of bitter rival Ryan Garcia in a mega showdown last weekend. The 28-year-old is considered one of the biggest draws remaining in the sport stateside having began his career following in the footsteps of undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather.

There will be a number of potential fights on the table for Davis given his dominant victory including a potential undisputed title challenge against the winner of Devin Haney's clash with Vasyl Lomachenko next month. However UFC featherweight Holloway has suggested he would be willing to create an event with Davis, that he hopes would emulate the crossover meeting between Mayweather and Conor McGregor.

“Let’s make a big fight with ‘Tank’ or something. Floyd Mayweather and ‘Tank,’ ‘Tank’ is following Floyd Mayweather’s recipe to the key,” Holloway told The MMA Hour when assessing potential options for himself after beating British star Allen. “So, why not fight an MMA guy and we do a big one? I can s*** talk to him.

"Just don’t put no hydration clause in it like how he did to my man Garcia. That would be a fun one. “Everybody talking about that shot [KO punch against Garcia] like, ‘Oh, he would have got up, blah, blah,’ I’m like, ‘Bro, the hydration clause is real,’ He couldn’t rehydrate properly and that shot, it might not look hard, but to a dehydrated body that hurts a lot.

"That shot probably hurts a lot even if you’re not dehydrated. So, I can only imagine, man. And it came out the same day that he had a rat and he actually got hurt to the body and that sucks. At the end of the day, that was tough but I would love to do a big one. Maybe do [T-Mobile Arena] like they did the Conor [McGregor] stuff.”

Holloway is considered one of the best strikers in the UFC and has shown that he has an ability to box unlike many of the other contenders on the roster. It is an uncertain time for 'Blessed' given he currently faces an uncertain period without a title shot having already lost to champion Alexander Volkanovski three times.

Davis is unlikely to accept a shot at Holloway given he is on an upwards trajectory in the world of boxing, and will look to continue his undefeated streak. Equally his potential rival is unlikely to be allowed to negotiate a squared circle showdown with the American given his contract with the UFC, and president Dana White's attitude towards future crossover events.
