Conor McGregor has been asked by UFC star Paulo Costa why his sparring partner in a newly released clip is "eating" every strike he throws.
McGregor, 34, released a 19-second video of him sparring at his gym in Dublin, although the footage is seemingly years old as the Irishman's frame is a lot smaller to his current physique. The former two-weight champion is seen landing a good head kick and overhand left on his sparring partner in the video, which prompted Costa to ask McGregor: "Why your spars eats every single shots?"
The video is also unlikely to have been filmed recently given McGregor is still recovering from a broken leg he suffered in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier last July. Although he hasn't been sparring, McGregor has been training recently as a video of him working on his wrestling with longtime coach Sergey Pikulskiy was posted on The Mac Life 's YouTube channel earlier this week.

Fans also caught onto the old footage of McGregor sparring despite him captioning the clip: "Live from the s*** hot factory". One user wrote: "After doing some searching, this video is likely from 2019-2020. Not sure why he posted it as live" with another adding: "This is old footage right? Out there looking like featherweight Conor and not welterweight Conor. The McGregor who picked his shots and bounced in the karate stance was unbeatable."
McGregor has been booked in five-round fights for the past eight years, but one user urged him to have a three-round fight when he makes his comeback. "Striking has never been your problem, cardio and grappling is With all of that added muscle I doubt the cardio has improved Start with a 3 round bout," they wrote.
A final user said it doesn't matter if the footage is old and backed McGregor to win in his comeback fight, stating: "It doesn’t matter if it’s recent. Champ can still catch a body any day of the week." With 'Notorious' ruled out of action for the rest of the year, by the time he returns to the cage three years would have passed since his last win.
McGregor lost consecutive fights to Dustin Poirier last year, being knocked out by him in January and breaking his leg in their trilogy fight in the summer. The Irishman was submitted by bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018 and took over a year away from the sport after the loss, returning in January 2020 when he knocked out now-retired UFC veteran Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone in just 40-seconds.
