McGregor was backed by his supporters despite Allick's condition with one fan even writing: "You look like you could be anywhere from 15 to 49." Allick was left frustrated by the bombardment of abuse in relation to his original tweet, but McGregor has since deleted his tweet targeting the American.
The student from Washington DC was previously diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Ewing’s sarcoma, while at high school in 2019 with the disease only affecting 200 children and young adults stateside every year. During his lengthy battle with the illness, Allick was required to have 17 aggressive sessions of chemotherapy and three surgical procedures to help him overcome the cancer which left him with changes to his physical appearance.
Allick makes reference to his brave battle with the rare bone cancer where he displays the term 'cancer survivor' in his bio on Twitter after successfully beating the illness into remission. McGregor later defended his actions, writing: "Despite contrary belief, I never fire the first shot in verbal warfare or disrespect. I end it with bombs that obliterate the original comments or remarks but never fire first."
