UFC star Conor McGregor admits he "almost broke" filming for Hollywood debut

Conor McGregor was exhausted whilst filming his Hollywood debut in the remake of Road House and "almost broke" a few times.

McGregor, 34, finished filming for his role in the remake of the 1989 action film at the beginning of this year. The former two-weight UFC champion is now focusing on making his fighting return as he prepares to face Michael Chandler in December after recently coaching against his rival on season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter.

During a chat with top-ranked welterweight Stephen Thompson on a recent episode of the UFC's reality TV show, McGregor admitted he found the long days of filming for Road House very taxing. "I almost broke a few times but I’m happy I got through it. I’m a bit nervous on how it will look but I’ve gave what I could give. They seemed happy that was the main thing," he said.

"I’ve never experienced anything like that in my life to be honest, doing the stunts and 15 hour days. After it, I felt like I was on a day off. You’re going home and only getting a couple hours sleep, sometimes we would start from 6am to 6pm then they wanted to switch it the other way. It's like 'I was just bouncing off a speedboat holding an anchor into the sea for the shot for hours on an end today, now I go home and they want me back up in four hours again?' It was crazy man."

An official release date hasn't been set for the remake of Road House, but the film is expected to come out in the second half of this year. McGregor starred alongside Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Jake Gyllenhall in the remake and he gatecrashed a UFC weigh-in earlier this year to promote the film.

"It was very tough, to be honest since doing it everything else feels easy, even this [TUF]. That’s why I committed to this because, the preparation that it takes before you going onto set. The time thinking and having to get the lines right and everything, the actual work and effort when you’re on stage," McGregor added.

McGregor and Chandler's fight is yet to be officially announced due to the question mark hanging over McGregor's status in the USADA testing pool. Chandler has rubbished theories McGregor will not fight this year and is confident any issues he has with the drug testing organisation will be resolved.
