UFC's heaviest and lightest champions are reunited ahead of world title fights

UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has reunited with flyweight champion Brandon Moreno ahead of their respective title defences at UFC 270.

The pair are both set to put their belts on the line as champions for the first time this weekend at UFC 270 in California, and they posed for a photo while training for their fights.

Moreno will have to weigh in at 125lb for his trilogy bout with Deiveson Figueiredo in the co-main event of Saturday night's fight card, while Ngannou will be allowed to come in at as heavy as 265lb for his title unification with Ciryl Gane.

The massive 140lb weight difference between the two is evident in the photo, which also shows their significant height gap, with Ngannou towering over the much smaller Mexican fighter.

Cameroonian fighter Ngannou is 6'4", nine-inches more than Moreno at 5'7", with a reach difference of over a foot with Ngannou's measured at 83" compared to Moreno's 70".

The pair originally met at the Xtreme Couture gym in Las Vegas, and have since become friends as well as world champions at two contrasting weight classes.

They both failed in their first attempts at dethroning the most recent champion in their weight class, before landing vicious finishes in their respective rematches.

Moreno held Figueiredo to a tight draw in December of 2020 before submitting him in the third round of their rematch at UFC 263 in Arizona.

And Ngannou was embarrassed in his first UFC loss against Stipe Miocic way back in 2018, but managed to launch a winning streak that saw him beat former champions Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos to earn a second shot.

There was to be no repeat of Miocic's heroics the second time around, with Ngannou working on his defensive wrestling to allow him to stay on the feet, where he would blast the champion out within a minute of the second round.

Despite their friendship, there is a competitiveness between Moreno and Ngannou, with the smaller fighter considering his trilogy bout to be the true main event on Saturday night.

He noted during an appearance on the MMA Hour back in November that due to his popularity in his home country of Mexico, he will be attracting the bigger crowd.

There is a massive Mexican population in the State, and he believes that they will show up to support him at the Honda Centre for his fledgling title defence.

"Man, I love Francis," Moreno told host Ariel Helwani. "He is a very nice guy.

"I'm excited. I met him in extreme and yes man, I believe I'm the real main event!

" If I'm in Africa, in Paris, I understand but Anaheim man, thousand and thousands of Mexicans, I don't want to say too much but I really believe I'm the real main event."
