Maycee Barber has hit back at Paige VanZant as she looks to goad her into a fight in the UFC Octagon.
“The Future” underlined her status as a rising star in the women’s flyweight decision with a first-round knockout of Gillian Robertson at UFC Boston last weekend.
She called VanZant out after the fight and threatened to “ruin her Instagram career”. But the former Dancing with the Stars runner-up has refused – saying she’ll fight any flyweight or strawweight other than Barber, whom she accused of showing no respect.
“Paige, if you thought I wanted to fight you out of respect, you’re wrong. I wanted to fight you because you’re famous and you’re easy money,” Barber wrote in an Instagram post.
Accompanying the post was a video filmed at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas.
“I’m out here at the PI trying to get my recovery in, and this phone keeps blowing up about Paige VanZant trying to get a fight,” Barber says in the video.
“She keeps going on and on about this respect, and trying to get a girl from her girl power union to come out and fight her in the cage.
“I’m looking to go out there and sign a contract with another girl and have her actually show up. I saw your thing on TMZ about begging Dana for a fight. And listen, Dana White, TMZ, Paige VanZant, I’m right here, I’ve been waiting.”
VanZant has one fight left on her UFC contract.
