UFC legend Jon Jones worries fans with now-deleted "don't kill me" tweet

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has worried fans after posting a concerning string of now-deleted tweets.

Jones, 35, posted five unusual tweets in the space of seven minutes on Sunday afternoon that seemed to come without explanation. The first tweet from the UFC legend read "Don’t kill me" and he followed up by posting just one minute later "Don’t kill you either". The ambiguous tweets continued as he then wrote: 'Being nice conversation".

His last two tweets read: "Erase this year?" and "Twitter says" before deleting his spree, but fans were quick to notice the tweets and have since voiced their concern for Jones. "Not jumping to conclusions and I hope all is well," one user wrote. "Uh oh, Jon Jones has been tweeting crazy stuff again," another added.

Jones became a two-weight UFC champion earlier this month by tapping out Ciryl Gane in just over two minutes to win the heavyweight title, having previously held the light-heavyweight belt for several years. A third user speculated that Jones' tweets were because he is injured, writing: "Has an injury, won't be back this year at all. The message is actually to Stipe [Miocic] it seems. Could be that Jon has a torn ACL or something."

'Bones' has hinted at a fight against former champion Miocic at UFC 290, which takes place during International fight week in July. UFC boss Dana White confirmed that Miocic would be next in line for Jones just moments after he won the heavyweight belt, with White also singing his praise for "the greatest fighter of all time" in Jones.

"I don't know when, but he's definitely fighting Stipe," White said. "Can anybody deny this guy is the goat anymore? Not only is he is the greatest light-heavyweight ever but he also looks like the greatest heavyweight ever too. The guy is unf****ng believable, he seriously is. There is no doubt Jon Jones is special, he's fought all the best competition out there."

Miocic was cageside to watch Jones make quick work of Gane earlier this month and the new champion sent a warning to his future opponent. "Stipe Miocic, I hope you're training, my guy," he said. "You're the greatest heavyweight of all-time, and that's what I want. I want you — real bad." Miocic offered a nonchalant response to Jones' win as he said: "Good for him. Hey, you won. I'll see him in July. I'm going to train my a** off and I'm going to beat his a**."
