UFC Fight Night 230 post-event facts: Edson Barboza sets record for Fight of the Night bonuses

The UFC’s second event of October got off to a slow start, but UFC Fight Night 230 closed with one of the best fights of the year.

The main event saw Edson Barboza (24-11 MMA, 18-11 UFC) rally from a vicious first-round beatdown to secure a unanimous decision win over Sodiq Yusuff (13-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) in a thrilling Fight of the Night matchup of ranked featherweights.

Event stats

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $167,500.

Debuting fighters went 1-2 at the event.

Barboza, Yusuff, Jonathan Martinez and Michel Pereira earned $50,000 UFC Fight Night 230 fight-night bonuses.

The UFC sold VIP tickets to fans for UFC Fight Night 230, but the promotion did not make public the total number of tickets sold or the gate.

Betting favorites went 8-3 on the card

Betting favorites fell to 19-16-1 in UFC headliners this year.

Total fight time for the 11-bout card was 2:16:15.

Edson Barboza def. Sodiq Yusuff

Barboza improved to 4-3 since he dropped to the featherweight division in May 2020.

Barboza’s 16 knockdowns landed in UFC competition are fourth-most in company history behind Donald Cerrone (20), Anderson Silva (18), and Jeremy Stephens (18).

Barboza landed 164 significant strikes in his victory, the single-fight high for his UFC career. His previous personal record was 126 significant strikes vs. Dan Hooker.

Barboza was awarded his ninth Fight of the Night bonus, the most in company history.

Yusuff has suffered both of his UFC losses by decision.

Jennifer Maia (20-11-1, 6-6 UFC) has suffered all six of her UFC losses by decision.

Jonathan Martinez def. Adrian Yanez

Martinez’s (19-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) five-fight UFC winning streak at bantamweight is tied with Mario Bautista for the second-longest active streak in the division behind Merab Dvalishvili (eight).

Martinez has earned 11 of his 19 career victories by stoppage.

Martinez became the second fighter in UFC history to earn multiple leg kick TKO victories with the promotion. Barboza also accomplished the feat.

Adrian Yanez (16-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC) suffered consecutive losses for the first time in his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since June 2022.

Yanez has suffered both of his UFC losses by stoppage due to strikes.

Michel Pereira def. Andre Petroski

Pereira (28-11 MMA, 7-2 UFC) was successful in his middleweight debut.

Andre Petroski (10-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) has suffered both of his career losses by knockout.

Christian Rodriguez def. Cameron Saaiman

Cameron Saaiman (9-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) had his nine-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of his career.

Darren Elkins def. TJ Brown

Darren Elkins’ (28-11 MMA, 18-10 UFC) 17 UFC featherweight victories are second most in divisional history behind Max Holloway (20).

Elkins’ 61 takedowns landed in UFC featherweight competition are most in divisional history.

Elkins’ 25 submission attempts in UFC featherweight competition are the most in divisional history.

TJ Brown (17-11 MMA, 3-5 UFC) has suffered eight of his 11 career losses by stoppage.

Tainara Lisboa def. Ravena Oliveira

Ravena Oliveira (7-2-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffered the first decision loss of her career.

Terrance McKinney (15-6 MMA, 5-3 UFC) has earned all 15 of his career victories by stoppage.

McKinney has earned all five of his UFC victories by first-round stoppage.

McKinney became the third fighter in UFC history to earn multiple knockout victories of 20 seconds or less. Anthony Johnson and Matthew Semelsberger also accomplished the feat.

Brendon Marotte (8-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffered the first stoppage loss of his career with a knockout defeat.

Chris Gutierrez (20-5-1 MMA, 8-2-1 UFC) improved to 6-2-1 in UFC bantamweight competition.

Gutierrez has earned five of his eight UFC victories by decision.

Heili Alateng (16-9-2 MMA, 4-2-1 UFC) has suffered both of his UFC losses by decision.

Ashley Yoder (8-9 MMA, 3-8 UFC) fell to 1-5 in her past six fights dating back to October 2019

Yoder has suffered all nine of her career losses by decision.
