Fans have backed up Conor McGregor for fighting a "real boxer" in Floyd Mayweather whilst fearing that Nate Diaz will involve himself in "stupid fights" after seeing out his UFC deal.
Diaz, 37, picked up his first win in over three years by submitting Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 to leave the promotion on a high. The 15-year UFC veteran is now a free agent after competing in the final fight of his contract and will be able to entertain opportunities in other sports such as boxing.
He teased a move to the ring after beating Ferguson whilst taking a dig at Conor McGregor's loss to boxing legend Floyd Mayweather by stating: "I want to get out of the UFC for a minute and show all these fighters how to take over and own up another sport how you’re supposed to do it because Conor McGregor didn’t know how to do it. None of these other fighters know how to do it. So I’m going to go out there and I’m going take over another profession and become the best at that."

Diaz has been linked to a fight against YouTube star Jake Paul, with 'The Problem Child' teasing the fight after Diaz's recent win. One fan pointed out that McGregor fought former five-weight champion Mayweather in his professional debut whilst Diaz is likely not to face a fighter of the same quality, commenting: "At least Conor crossed over to fight a real boxer this s*** is embarrassing."
Another user backed Paul to beat Diaz in a potential fight, insisting the UFC veteran looked "awful" in his win against Ferguson. "Diaz looks awful last night, Jake would probably beat him," they wrote. A third user weighed in by commenting: "I love Diaz but his boxing fundamentals are shocking he would get sparked by any competent boxer."
Diaz was also told he would be knocked out by Paul and fellow YouTube star KSI if he was to fight either of the pair, as the comment read: "Nate Diaz boxing is sloppy as hell KSI and Jake putting this man to sleep. A final user added: "The only sad thing is the only Nate Diaz fights we're gonna see is stupid celebrity boxing matches."
Despite being known for his impressive boxing skills, Diaz has no amateur or professional boxing fights under his belt. Diaz's boxing skills have been credited by former two-weight world champion Andre Ward and there is also footage of the UFC veteran holding his own against former 140lb champion Regis Prograis in sparring.
