UFC fans have voiced their anger after Dana White refused to rule out Conor McGregor fighting for the lightweight title on his return from injury.
The Irishman is considered one of the sport's biggest superstars and arguably continues to be the biggest pay-per-view draw despite his recent two defeats by Dustin Poirier.
He is expected to make a comeback later this year and has received encouragement that he could challenge for the lightweight title currently held by Charles Oliveira.
The Brazilian will defend his belt against Justin Gaethje on May 7 and White hinted McGregor could challenge the winner.
"We will see what's what with the lightweight division," he told The Underground. "It's going to depend on who the champion is when Conor McGregor comes back, they have a say in it. What do they want to do?
"If it's Oliveira who is still champion when Conor comes back, maybe Oliveira wants Conor we will see then."
However fans are noticeably angry about the prospect with one fan responding: "Yeah, this is disgusting.
"First you've got Conor's behaviour, the fact that he hasn't won a fight at lightweight in a boat-load of years, the fact that he has just lost a fight by KO and another by getting his leg broken; and then the fact that the division is stacked with beasts.
"More actual title contenders at LW than any other division. The run for the title should be booked up with actual contenders for the next two years or something."
Another fan agreed: "I get McGregor is a draw, but he can sell a card without being given a title shot. Let him fight Nate again or Masvidal or someone else.
"He hasn’t won at lightweight in like six years. You don’t have to ruin the sports integrity just to sell PPVs. So stupid."

One fan ranted: "Absolute b*******. Dana is just making it up as he goes. Need to get a proper set-in-stone ranking system that makes sense and makes it obvious who fights for the title."
A fan compared McGregor to Islam Makhachev: "'Conor won one fight at lightweight five years ago. Islam has won four fights at lightweight since March last year."
One fan offered a different opinion: "I don’t agree with Conor getting a title shot but Dana isn’t going to give him “winnable” fights but what if he looses those too?! Whatever stock he has left is gone if he looses to relative no names."
UFC president White has previously admitted that McGregor receives "special treatment", and has refused to rule out an immediate title shot.
The Irishman is currently in ninth place in the rankings and could find himself behind several contenders in the queue including Makhachev.
