UFC champion claims Floyd Mayweather tried to 'steal' his girlfriend at party

UFC star Aljamain Sterling has revealed Floyd Mayweather tried to 'steal' his girlfriend in 2016 when the pair were out in the same venue.

Sterling recently retained his bantamweight title in a rematch victory over Russian star Petr Yan, and is now waiting for his next challenge. Mayweather, meanwhile, remains retired from boxing with a record of 50-0 but will face American Don Moore in an exhibition clash on a helipad in Dubai.

The UFC champion revealed that he was ready to "fight it out" with Mayweather over the incident with the pair both undefeated at the time. "It was Mayweather," Sterling said during an episode of Spinnin' Backfist. "He sent over his minions to try to pick her up, this was back in like 2016 I think. But I was still undefeated at the time. He sent over a guy first who said we can both come down and I was like, 'Man I'm not stupid'.

"If I come over there you guys are going to try and take her up and try to push me back and then I will face some type of way and I will have to create a scene because you are not going to punk me like that. He left and came back with a girl who said, 'Yeah you can both come down'. I was like, 'Listen I know how the scene of this movie goes'.

"You can tell Floyd he is undefeated in boxing and I am undefeated in MMA, if we want to figure out what is the better sport we could fight out today. I don't think they went and actually told him that, but listen I am a big fan but you aren't about to have me looking stupid out here."

Sterling was present at a Las Vegas pool party with Mayweather, at which the undefeated boxing star was later pictured with UFC star Chris Weidman. The UFC star is not angry over the incident and holds no grudge over Mayweather of whom he is a big fan.

The boxing legend will return to the ring for the third time since retiring from his professional career when he challenges on Moore atop the plush Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai. Mayweather began his route on the exhibition circuit with a victory over Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa.

Last June he faced YouTube star Logan Paul in a high-profile event that ended without a result but sold around one million pay-per-views. Mayweather has been forced to hit back at criticism over his latest opponent who has an undefeated record of his own against limited opposition.

"[I'm going to] pick up a couple of dollars," he said in a video shared on social media. "They're upset because I'm smart, I kept all my faculties and made a lot of smart investments. When great people like Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, the Waltons, the people who own Walmart and Walgreens, when they're getting money in their 50s, their 60s, 70s, 80s, even 90s, it's ok."
