A bantamweight matchup has been added to the UFC Fight Night event scheduled for Oct. 1.
Former Combate Global standout John Castaneda (19-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC) will battle Charles Oliveira protege Daniel Santos (9-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC). The event does not have an official location or venue at this time.
Two people with knowledge of the matchup informed MMA Junkie of the booking Tuesday but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.
Castaneda, 30, has won back-to-back fights inside the distance after an unsuccessful promotional debut against Nathaniel Wood in July 2020. For his first UFC victory, Castaneda finished Eddie Wineland with punches. Most recently, he returned to submit Miles Johns with an arm-triangle choke in February.
Santos, 27, seeks his first UFC win in his second attempt. After a pair of failed bookings, Santos made his promotional debut in April when he lost a unanimous decision to Julio Arce. The defeat snapped a two-fight winning streak.
With the addition, the UFC lineup for Oct. 1 includes:
- Mackenzie Dern vs. Yan Xioanan
- Brendan Allen vs. Krzysztof Jotko
- Vinc Pichel vs. Jesse Ronson
- Tabatha Ricci vs. Cheyanne Vlismas
- Guido Cannetti vs. Randy Costa
- Chelsea Chandler vs. Julija Stoliarenko
- John Castaneda vs. Daniel Santos
