MIAMI – The hours are rapidly winding down until a new featherweight champion is crowned, and on Friday, Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes ensured things will go ahead at planned when they made weight for the UFC 314 main event.
After Ilia Topuria vacated the 145-pound belt, former champion Volkanovski (26-4 MMA, 13-3 UFC) and red-hot rising star Lopes (26-6 MMA, 5-1 UFC) have been paired to determined the next titleholder. Both men handled business on the scale at official weigh-ins, which went down at the UFC host hotel.
Volkanovski was 146 pounds on the scale as he attempts to become a two-time champion, while Lopes registered at 146 pounds in advance of his first opportunity at UFC gold.
