Tom Aspinall has gone through the upcoming heavyweight clash between Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov at UFC 310, as the interim champion could face the winner.
Tom Aspinall Predicts Ciryl Gane vs Alexander Volkov At UFC 310
Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov will go head-to-head once again at UFC 301, which is taking place in the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.
The two have shared the Octagon previously, with Gane picking up a unanimous decision victory at UFC Fight Night Nevada in June 2021 – which is why Gane is the favourite on UK betting sites.
Aspinall, who has been pushing for a unification bout against the current heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, spoke on the first meeting between Gane and Volkov but was not full of praise for the UFC stars.
The interim UFC heavyweight champion said: “Stinker … terrible fight. No one remembers it. Nothing really happened in the fight. It was just a lot of clinching up against the fence – not a lot of great damage done.”
Aspinall clinched the interim championship with a first round knockout victory against Curtis Blaydes, which avenged his only defeat in the UFC.
However, this defeat did not come from the hands of Blaydes, as the English fighter suffered a major knee injury from an awkward fall.
UFC fans have been extremely vocal about Aspinall’s next fight, with many pointing towards Jon Jones for ‘ducking’ the match-up.
Seven of Aspinall’s eight UFC victories have come in the first round, with the other coming just a round later and the 31-year-old is one of the most dangerous fighters in the world.
If a fight with Jones does not materialise then Aspinall could fight the winner between Gane and Volkov, with the Englishman already beating Volkov via submission at a UFC Fight Night in 2022.
The British UFC star analysed the fight between two potential opponents and gave a breakdown on how things could play out.
Aspinall said: “The feet are very important in this fight in my opinion. When I say the feet, I’m not talking about the kicking as such – I’m talking about the positioning of their feet.
“If Volkov can get him going backwards and keep him against the fence, he can just use that length and tee off on him with the kicks and the punches like we’re seeing there.
“On the contrary to that, Ciryl Gane is really good moving backwards – that’s his strength, is he lures his opponents in and moves off on them angles. So it’s just an interesting match-up of styles, and we love heavyweight fights.”
