Uefa Nations League groups and permutations explained: How England can qualify

England face Croatia in their final league game of the Uefa Nations League on Sunday.

The Three Lions are second in group for of League A in the new competition. Croatia sit bottom but have a game in hand and will face Spain on Thursday before visiting Wembley.

Should the World Cup finalists pick up something against Spain, to whom they lost 6-0 last time, but then lose to Gareth Southgate's side, England will progress to the knockout stages in June next year.

Each of the four group winners from League A will take part in the semi-finals before the final is contested on June 9.

From the top League, both Poland - who have lodged a bid to host the finals - and Iceland have already been relegated, while Ukraine have been promoted from League B.

England’s away leg against Croatia, which was played behind closed doors due to a Uefa sanction on the hosts, finished 0-0 last month.
