An Uddingston Parish Priest said a fond farewell to his parishioners last week after 17 years in the town.
Father Dominic Towey, who is the last of the many Irish parish priests to serve Motherwell Diocese, has hung up his robes at St John the Baptist, following 52 years of active ministry.
He will now move into residence in St Augustine's Parish Coatbridge, with Father Michael Kane and will be succeeded in Uddingston by Father Ivan Boyle, current Parish Priest of St Vincent de Paul's in East Kilbride where Father Romanus will take up appointment as administrator of St Vincent's Parish.
Bishop of Motherwell, Bishop Joseph Toal thanked Father Towey for his many years service with the Diocese.
He told Lanarkshire Live : " As Father Towey steps down as Parish Priest of St John the Baptist’s, Uddingston, the Diocese of Motherwell recognises and gives thanks for his priestly ministry in all the parishes he has served.
"Although he has retired as a Parish Priest, he will continue to minister in St Augustine’s, Coatbridge, and hopefully he will remain in good health and spirit well into the future.
"May the Lord bless him in every way.”
Members of the St John the Baptist congregation also offered their prayers and best wishes to Father Towey, wishing him a "long, happy and healthy retirement."
