The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has alerted its students to be prepared for a potential evacuation as the Palisades fire continues to pose a threat in the vicinity. While not an immediate evacuation order, an evacuation warning has been issued for a zone adjacent to the UCLA campus.
As of Friday night, the evacuation warnings have been extended closer to the campus, with parts of Interstate 405 and the Encino Reservoir now under evacuation orders. These areas border the I-405 freeway and the Getty Center, which are just a short drive away from UCLA. An evacuation warning remains in effect for the area on the opposite side of the freeway, stopping just above the university grounds.
UCLA, which is home to over 46,000 undergraduate and graduate students, has taken precautionary measures by shifting all classes to remote learning on Monday. The university is urging its students and staff to stay vigilant and be prepared to evacuate if the alert is expanded to include the campus.
The Palisades fire has been a cause for concern in the region, prompting authorities to issue evacuation orders and warnings to ensure the safety of residents and institutions in the area. UCLA continues to monitor the situation closely and is working in coordination with local authorities to keep its campus community informed and safe.
