UCLA will be concluding its wildfire emergency status on Friday evening, with students set to return to classrooms next week, as announced by the university.
Chancellor Julio Frenk, in a video statement, acknowledged the ongoing challenges faced by the community due to the numerous fires in the region. However, he expressed optimism by stating that trends and projections are moving in a positive direction.
Despite the proximity of UCLA's main campus in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles to the Palisades Fire, which has scorched over 23,000 acres, the university has not reported any damage from the wildfires.
UCLA has confirmed that in-person classes will resume on Tuesday, with Monday already scheduled off in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The university emphasized that it remains vigilant and prepared to reassess plans if conditions change, ensuring that precautions are not relaxed.
