ORLANDO, Fla. — UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel has a broken left collarbone, a person with knowledge of the situation had told the Orlando Sentinel on Saturday, and soon after he confirmed the diagnosis on social media.
The program hasn’t commented on the injury to Gabriel’s throwing arm and hasn’t officially ruled him out for the season.
Gabriel said his collarbone won’t require surgery and there is “no timetable for my return.”
Coach Gus Malzahn didn’t provide an update after the game Friday when Gabriel was writhing in pain on the field for an extended period after he was hit as time expired. His left arm was in a sling postgame.
The Knights are entering a bye week. True freshman Mikey Keene, who is Gabriel’s backup, made his debut in a 63-14 vs. Bethune-Cookman last week.
He completed 4 of 7 passes for 55 yards and one touchdown.
