Ucas deadline 2019: When is the application day and what do I do if I miss it?

Prospective students need to submit their university applications to Ucas within a matter of days.

The universities admissions service Ucas says applicants should leave enough time to complete their application and check they have entered their qualifications and reference correctly.

Here's what you need to know ahead of the Ucas deadline.

When is the deadline?

For undergraduate courses starting in September, the deadline for Ucas applications is 6pm on Tuesday, 15 January.

Prospective students are required to fill in their details, qualifications and course choices. They also need to submit a personal statement and a reference as part of the application.

Some art and design courses used to have a later deadline of 24 March – but this has been removed. All students are now asked to apply by next week for an undergraduate course place.

The deadline has already passed for medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses, as well as courses at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Applicants had to get their forms in by 15 October 2018.

What do I do if I miss the deadline?

If you do not make the 15 January deadline, you can still apply for courses.

Ucas recommends that you ask universities whether they have any course vacancies first.

The final deadline for late applications is 6pm on 30 June.

Can I get a university place through clearing?

You will not be able to choose the courses you prefer if you apply after the June deadline – but you can be entered into clearing if you submit an application to Ucas before 6pm on 20 September.

Clearing, which runs between July and September, is available to those who have not received any offers or have not met their offer conditions, as well as for those applying after 30 June.

If you achieve better results than expected, you can also use the Ucas Adjustment service that runs between 16 and 31 August to have a look at what other courses may be available.

Are there any other options?

If you have used all five choices on your application and you have not received any offers, then you can have another go through Ucas Extra.

From 25 February, you may be able to add another choice through the free service.
