Uber reveals passenger ratings for the first time

Uber has revealed its passenger ratings for the first time - giving an insight into where the best and worst passengers are around the UK.

Riders can now see how many drivers gave them a five-star score, as well as who handed out the dreaded single star.

As well as publishing the top 10 best and worst towns and cities in the UK, Uber has also provided tips to avoid lower ratings.

And now every rider - and driver - can see how their rating is calculated via the new Privacy Center in the Uber app.

The below lists show the places in the UK which have the highest and lowest average ratings.

Top 10 towns and cities in the UK with the highest average rider rating

  1. Belfast

Want to improve your rating?

Both riders and drivers have the ability to rate one to five stars on a trip. Your rating is the average of your last 500 trips. If you want to help improve your rating, drivers have shared some of the top reasons they hand out fewer stars:

  • Rude or aggressive passengers. Unsurprisingly, these are the least appreciated by drivers and a quick way to bring your rating down.
  • Eating in the car. It’s best not to let that breakfast croissant or evening kebab end up all over the seat.
  • Asking to smoke with the window open or playing music loudly on your phone. It’s never a good idea to treat the car as an after-party.
  • Slamming the door - a classic! Always best to take care of the driver's vehicle and treat it with respect.
  • Refusing to put on your seatbelt. It may seem obvious to buckle up for safety but surprisingly this one still happens.

Zach Singleton, privacy product manager at Uber, said "We launched the Privacy Center, which features a ratings breakdown, to provide users with more transparency and easier access to their data.

"We hope that by giving users a peek into how their rating is calculated, we can help encourage positive experiences between riders and drivers on every trip.”
