Uber launches in Europe’s top holiday destinations in time for summer travel season

Uber is launching across top holiday destinations in Europe, with taxi services becoming available across parts of Greece and Spain.

The transportation network company’s services will be available in Greece’s Santorini and Mykonos, with Uber Comfort available on both islands as well as Corfu and Rhodes.

Furthermore, holidaymakers in Mykonos will be able to reserve the brand-new Uber Boat, which allows customers to book a speedboat via the Uber app.

In Spain, Uber services will launch on the islands of Majorca and Tenerife. The taxi service will be back in Italy’s Sicily and Sardinia, as well as becoming available in Malta.

For those visiting Croatia this summer, Uber’s services are available in Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar, Rijeka, and the island of Pag.

Meanwhile, in France, Uber is launching its seasonal summer “pop-up” cities in places such as Biarritz and Saint-Jean-de-Luz. A premium product, Uber Berline, will launch in Bordeaux.

Also available this summer is the Uber Reserve function. This allows customers to book rides anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 days in advance with a locked-in price.

The taxi app is also using flight-tracking technology to ensure a car is waiting when riders arrive at the airport.

“We’re expecting tourism across Europe to reach record figures this summer,” Anabel Diaz, Vice President, Head of EMEA Mobility at Uber, said.

“That is why we’re launching Uber services across dozens of European vacation destinations — from Uber Reserve, allowing travellers to book up to 90 days in advance, to Uber Boat, a splashy new experience that will make Mykonos more memorable than ever before.”

“With this expansion, we’re able to meet our customers where they’re headed and make travel more seamless and stress-free.”

Uber’s European expansion follows the launch of Uber Flights. In May, Uber introduced the ability to book both domestic and international flights from the app.

By “this summer”, Uber users in the UK will be able to book return flights, select seats, and even pay in the app.

Additionally, earlier this year, Uber also launched step-by-step instructions for the airport, which will launch in more than 30 airports worldwide.

Another feature, walking ETAs, will be supported by more than 400 airports.

Uber’s latest expansion, plus the introduction of Uber Boat, is its latest step towards becoming a “one-stop shop” for travel.

UK customers can already book trains and coaches through the app, as well as hire bikes and scooters in their local area.

In April, the company also revealed that it would also one day allow customers to book hotels through the app.

At the time, Jamie Heywood, Uber’s Regional General Manager, said: “Everyone values the freedom to make travel arrangements in a simple and convenient way, which is why we’re excited to become a one-stop shop for all your travel needs.”
