Uber Eats announces shortlist for restaurant of the year awards: Three vegan spots make top 10

The food delivery service Uber Eats has announced the finalists for its annual restaurant of the year awards, with three vegan spots making the top nine.

In the running in the London round are Roti King, the Malaysian restaurant in Euston, and Gunpowder, the Indian group with sites in Soho, Tower Bridge, and Spitalfields.

Three vegan concepts are also on the shortlist, with What the Pita, Halo Burger, and Tofu Vegan on the list.

Uber Eats is asking diners to vote for their favourite local restaurant, with the winner in line for a £100,000 prize to invest in their business.

On Wednesday, Uber Eats unveiled the regional shortlist for its UK and Ireland Restaurant of the Year awards, using public nominations to build a shortlist.

The contest spans the UK, and those who make it through to the final will be invited to a judging day in London, with Prue Leith, Monica Galett, and Uber Eats general manager Matthew Price on hand to decide who makes the cut.

Joining Roti King, Gunpowder and the three plant-based outposts are are Brotittos, Eat Lebo, Shrewd Kitchen, It’s All Greek To Me.

And also on the judging panel is content creator Seema Pankhania, who spent time at Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants before moving into media, and Be Inclusive Hospitality founder Lorraine Copes.

Galetti said:“I’ve witnessed first-hand the levels of hard work, dedication and passion that go into running a restaurant business. I’m excited to be part of the Uber Eats Restaurant of the Year Awards 2023 and to see what these independent restaurants bring to the table, and to meet some of the great minds behind the UK’s favourite meals.”

Leith added:“I’m delighted to work with Uber Eats to crown their Restaurant of the Year again this year. Last year, we got to see all the hard work and effort these businesses go to for their customers and spotlight some extraordinary people, stories and restaurants. This year, I’m once again looking forward to discovering the next big thing in the restaurant industry, and of course to eating some amazing food.”

For the next stage of the voting process, customers can view the shortlist and vote for their favourite restaurants from today until August 19 at ubereatsawards.com. The final national shortlist will then be announced in September.
