Bono is hitting the road.
This time, however, without the rest of U2.
Instead of rocking a stadium or arena on this visit, Bono will arrive as part of a 14-city book tour in support of his forthcoming memoir — “Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story” — which is set to be released on Nov. 1.
“I miss being on stage and the closeness of U2’s audience,” Bono says in a media statement. “In these shows, I’ve got some stories to sing and some songs to tell… Plus I want to have some fun presenting my ME-moir, ‘Surrender,’ which is really more of a WE-moir if I think of all the people who helped me get from there to here.”
The book tour, titled Stories of Surrender, kicks off in New York City and also visits Boston, Toronto, Chicago, Nashville, Tennessee, Los Angeles, London, Glasgow, Manchester, Berlin, Paris, Madrid and Bono’s hometown of Dublin.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Oct. 7 at www.ticketmaster.com/bono. Each ticket purchased comes with a copy of the memoir.
The memoir’s subtitle — “40 Songs, One Story” — refers to the book’s 40 chapters, each named after a U2 song along with 40 original drawings by Bono. The book traces Bono’s life from his childhood in Dublin, including the loss of his mother when he was 14, through U2’s journey to global stardom and Bono’s activism in the fight against AIDS and extreme poverty.
