The U.S. will assist Kerala in implementing various projects announced by the State government in the higher education sector. This was announced by the U.S. Consul General in Chennai Judith Ravin after holding discussions with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Wednesday.

Mr.Vijayan sought U.S. support to set up centres of excellence in various domains including Artificial Intelligence and pharmaceuticals. He told Ms.Ravin that the government was planning to establish 250 international hostels this year to attract foreign students to universities in the State.

The Consul General pledged academic support for Kerala’s efforts to improve the quality of education. She also promised to work out a collaboration between the Digital University of Kerala and a prominent higher education institution in the USA.

The proposal for U.S. collaboration in the vaccine manufacturing unit in Kerala also figured in the talks.

Ms.Ravin told the Chief Minister that the Consulate would work with the U.S. Embassy in Delhi to facilitate the emigration of Keralites seeking employment in the health sector. She also responded favourably to Mr.Vijayan’s proposal for a collaboration with the Centre for Disease Control to be set up in Kerala.

She also hailed the State government’s efforts to bring back Keralite students from the war- ravaged cities in Ukraine.

Chief Secretary V.P.Joy and the Officer on Special Duty in New Delhi Venu Rajamony were present.
