U.S. Rep. Barr announces $10 million federal grant for new Lexington industrial park

Congressman Andy Barr came to Lexington’s City Hall Monday with a $10 million dollar grant for the new Legacy Business Park. Barr said seeking federal funds for the industrial park was a no-brainer because the park, which is projected to eventually employ nearly 17-hundred people, will pay for itself.

“We need land for industrial development in Fayette County, and this is an opportunity to bring new industry, new jobs, manufacturing and other tenants to the business park.”

The park will be built on land the city acquired from the University of Kentucky in 2018. Kevin Atkins is the city’s chief development officer.

“The project, especially for the residents, around the park, Kearney Hills and others, it also provides quality of life, there's trail system through the park, there's green space.”

According to a news release from the city, the federal grant will complete the $22.4 million needed for the 200-acre park’s infrastructure. Construction is expected to begin this fall off Georgetown Road and I-75 and take around 18 months.
