U.S. Embassy Urges Americans To Leave Lebanon Amid Rising Tensions

The U.S. Embassy in Lebanon has issued a video warning to American citizens in the country, advising them to depart before a potential crisis unfolds. This caution comes in response to escalating tensions between Israel and Lebanon-based, Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorists following a deadly rocket attack that claimed 12 lives at a children's soccer field over the weekend.

Several airlines, including Air France, Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines, and Eurowings, have suspended flights to and from Beirut in anticipation of a possible major conflict. The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Rena Bitter, emphasized the importance of developing a crisis plan and utilizing commercial transportation while local infrastructure remains operational.

Americans in Lebanon are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive timely travel alerts. Additionally, those already in the country should be prepared to shelter in place for extended periods if necessary.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly conducted a drone strike in southern Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of two Hezbollah terrorists. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his cabinet have authorized a military response to the Hezbollah attack, with discussions ongoing with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin regarding the situation.

As tensions continue to rise, the U.S. Department of State reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of American citizens abroad. Individuals traveling to or from Lebanon are advised to monitor flight statuses closely and make alternate plans due to potential itinerary changes with little notice.

In light of the evolving situation, the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon urges caution and vigilance, emphasizing the need for preparedness and flexibility in response to changing circumstances in the region.
