Tyson Fury was trying to phone Anthony Joshua after win over Dillian Whyte

Tyson Fury called Eddie Hearn to ask for Anthony Joshua's phone number as he celebrated his win over Dillian Whyte.

Fury stopped Whyte in the sixth round of their clash at Wembley to successfully defend his heavyweight world title in front of 94,000 fans. The 33-year-old celebrated his victory at a party with his family the following day - during which he video-called Hearn.

And the promoter, who represents former champion Joshua, revealed Fury was keen to speak to his rival. "He FaceTimed me non-stop but I couldn't really hear him because he was drinking and I was in a restaurant," Hearn told The DAZN Boxing Show. "I just said well done, I think he was trying to call AJ and he was asking me for his number. He was harassing everyone and having a few drinks to celebrate."

After stopping Whyte, Fury confirmed his plan to retire from the sport rather than face the winner of Joshua's proposed summer rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. But Hearn claims Fury cannot claim to belong with the heavyweight greats until he fights for the undisputed title.

"Tyson Fury is a great bluff merchant and he ain't retiring," he added. "The biggest fights for Tyson Fury haven't happened yet. He's the best heavyweight on the planet right now, I'll give him that, but when we talk about generational greatness... with victories over Wilder and Klitschko and Whyte, please don't start mentioning him in the same breath as [Muhammad] Ali and [Joe] Frazier.

"But if he beat AJ or Usyk, I'd give him the respect of being a generational great up there with everyone. He might be the greatest of all time - I don't think so - but you have to prove it with your resume, not by beating the same guy three times."

Fury admitted he could return to the ring in exhibition fights in the same way Floyd Mayweather has since he retired. UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou joined Fury in the ring after his latest win with the pair both keen to arrange a crossover fight for early 2023.
