Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk Rematch Prize Money & Purses

Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury 2 has been and gone, with the undefeated Ukrainian beating ‘The Gypsy King’ for a second time. Both fighters earned extremely lucrative purses for the bout, but just what was the exact prize money and how much is each fighter being paid in fight purses?

Fury vs Usyk 2 Prize Money

The rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury has now been and gone, with the undefeated Ukrainian defeating ‘The Gypsy King’ via unanimous decision at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

This stellar card was once again put on by His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, who’s involvement in boxing has brought a new lease of life to the sport. Along with that new lease of life and the big fights he is providing fans, His Excellency is also paying fighters extremely handsomely.

Both Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury’s net worth’s have increased massively since fighting in Saudi Arabia, with Turki Alalshikh’s bumper Riyadh Season cards providing fighters with career high paydays and extremely lucrative purses.

With that being said, both ‘The Gypsy King’ and the undefeated Ukrainian once again pocketed huge amounts of money for their rematch on Saturday, December 21st in the Saudi Arabian desert.

Individual figures are yet to be officially disclosed for each fighter, but talkSPORT have reported that the total Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury 2 prize money on offer was £150 million ($191m).

First time around, Tyson Fury took home the lion share of the purse as the A-side. However, this time around, given that he won both the first and second fight, Oleksandr Usyk earned a far greater percentage than he did back in May. ‘The Cat’ was the A-side for the rematch.

The best boxing betting sites in the UK priced Usyk as the betting favourite for the rematch, and they weren’t wrong with the undefeated fighter winning the bout via unanimous decision. Fury was the underdog every so slightly, going on to lose back-to-back fights to Usyk.

How Much Did Usyk & Fury Earn In The First Fight?

For the rematch on December 21st, it has been widely reported that Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk split the £150 million fight purse. An exact purse split is yet to be disclosed, but the Ukrainian is set to receive a larger purse than his British counterpart as the A-side.

For the first fight back in May, the undisputed world heavyweight title contest, it was ‘The Gypsy King’ who took home the bigger purse. £115 million was reportedly the total purse for the first Fury vs Usyk fight, which is £35 million less than what the fighters will be pocketing for the rematch this time around.

Tyson Fury took home around 70% of the purse for the first fight, reportedly earning somewhere in the region of £85 million. This was around £55m more than Oleksandr Usyk, who took home a £30 million purse, despite winning the fight and becoming the undisputed champion.

This means that ‘The Cat’ will likely earn over double the amount he did in the first fight, with Fury earning slightly less than he did back in May.

Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury 2 Fight Purses

Both men are expected to receive an individual fight purse. Although official purses are yet to be disclosed, it has been reported from various sources that the purse split was 55-45 in Oleksandr Usyk’s favour.

Looking at both fighters previous purses, it is apparent that Tyson Fury has received the bigger purses consistently throughout his career, in particular since his comeback. Overall, Fury has earned upward of £250 million in his career from fight purses.

Compare that to Oleksandr Usyk, who has earned around £80-85 million during his professional boxing career. It is also worth noting that the 37-year-old has earned £76 million of this in his last seven fights, and over £75m of this has come since his move up to heavyweight from cruiserweight.

For the rematch, Oleksandr Usyk ended up taking home around £82.5 million of the overall £150m purse, which equates to his 55%. This means that Tyson Fury took home around £67.5 million, £15-20m less than he did for the first fight back in May.

This means that Usyk earned more in this rematch than he has done throughout his entire career. In one fight, Usyk has earned the same as all previous 22 fights in his professional career. For Fury, his career earnings now surpass the £300 million mark.
