The long-standing saga surrounding Tyson Fury's next opponent is set to finally come to a close, with Dillian Whyte getting his title shot.
The WBC had already mandated the title defence for the Gypsy King but negotiations with Whyte have been problematic, with the London fighter unhappy with his split.
Fury 's camp are offering an 80-20 split, something the WBC has approved, but Whyte's corner are pushing for more - leading to lengthy delays.
Purse bids have been pushed back on no fewer than four occasions but are set to finally go ahead today in Mexico City.
The Mail reports that it comes after talks with Anthony Joshua regarding a step-aside agreement collapsed, ending any hope that a unification bout between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk would be pushed forward.
It's reported that Joshua pushed for a £20m pay-off, while the offer on the table was £15m his way and a further £5.5m to Whyte.
With all the smokescreens now blown away, eyes will be cast towards mid-April when the bout between Fury and Whyte is set to go ahead.
Fury's camp have already reserved an end of March date at Cardiff's Principality Stadium but that is likely to be too soon for the Whyte showdown, which is more likely to occur the following month.
Cardiff will continue to be the favourite to host the venue for Fury's return to UK shores for the first time since 2019, with few other options for a stadium bout at this time of year.
The Welsh venue has the edge due to it's roof, so hopes of Fury achieving his dream of fighting at Manchester United's Old Trafford remain on hold.
