Boxing fans were left disappointed by a lacklustre heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Saturday night.
The Gypsy King stopped his British rival in the tenth round of the contest after dominating the fight from the opening bell. Chisora showed tremendous heart to stay in the fight, but the referee had seen enough as the pair entered the final two rounds.
A bloodied and bruised Chisora embraced the 6ft 9ins Fury following the bout, as boos rang out around the stadium from boxing fans who felt there wasn't enough action. The outrage continued on social media, with many feeling that Fury went easy on Chisora. “He won it in the third, but carried him to give people their money’s worth,” one angry fan wrote, adding that he feels Fury could have ended the fight in the earlier rounds. “Boxing is really in the mud at the moment,” another added

Others suggested that it wasn't the fight fans wanted to see. "Literally just took it as many rounds as possible so the fans got their money’s worth. A match up no one asked for," another said. "Fury tired out from carrying him for 9 rounds. Could have finished in the first but Fury held him up then coasted till ref stepped in," another added. While a further fan wrote: "Tyson Fury must be a great boxer. He’s masterfully dabbed and glanced punches off his mate all night and made sure he never really hurt him."
"Defo threw lighter punches Fury he was defo taking it easy on Chisora," another said. Another tweeted: "Can’t have one sided fights man. When is the last time we’ve had a 50/50 fight those are the best. "Let's be honest, it was just a training session so it keeps fury active. Make the Usyk fight now," said another, while also demanding Fury takes on Usyk.
The Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk is fresh off his win over Britain's Anthony Joshua in August and is now in Fury's sights for an undisputed title fight blockbuster. The WBA, IBF, and WBO unified champion was in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium to watch Fury and also cheer on fellow Ukrainian Denys Berinchyk, who overcame Yvan Mendy by unanimous decision on the undercard.
The Gypsy King called Usyk up to the ropes after the fight before unleashing an expletive-laden tirade. He said: "Usyk you are next you little b****." You are getting it you little p****. I am not a bodybuilder. You sucker, I am going to write you off Let's get it on!" Usyk did not react or respond.
Fury's trilogy against Deontay Wilder has dominated his focus over recent years, but he is now likely to look ahead either to a matchup with Usyk or former British heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Fury's impressive career record now stands at 33 wins, no losses, one draw.
