Tyson Fury sends message to Casemiro after Manchester United goal vs Newcastle

Tyson Fury has paid tribute to Casemiro after the midfielder helped Manchester United to Carabao Cup glory against Newcastle United at Wembley.

United were 2-0 winners on Sunday, with Casemiro scoring the opening goal after 33 minutes. The Brazil international headed home from Luke Shaw’s free-kick.

The goal went to a VAR check with suggestions that Casemiro was offside from Shaw’s delivery. But the check showed that the 31-year-old was onside and the header counted.

It was Casemiro’s fifth goal of the campaign and set United on their way to a first trophy since 2017. The Reds doubled their lead just six minutes later when Marcus Rashford’s effort was deflected into the net by Newcastle defender Sven Botman.

Fury is a United fan and took to Twitter after the opening goal. The heavyweight champion boxer tweeted: “CAAAASSSSSEEEMIRROOO!” along with a trophy and a football emoji.

Fury was tuning into the final before turning his attention to younger brother Tommy’s fight later on Sunday night. Tommy fights against American YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia.

Fury has previously stated his desire to stage a fight at Old Trafford before he retires from professional boxing. The Wythenshawe-born fighter said in 2021: “I have two fights left out here (the USA) but I’d love to bring a world title fight back to Manchester.

“It has always been a dream of mine to fight at Old Trafford. The last fight there was Eubank versus Benn in 1993 and that was massive.”

But he appeared to backtrack on those comments before his victory against Dillian Whyte at Wembley last year, telling the MEN Sport: "No! This is it, this is the capital city, the pinnacle of it all. It used to be one of my big goals to fight at Old Trafford, as well as to fight at Madison Square Garden, York Hall and MGM - and that was it but the opportunity came up to fight here."
