Tyson Fury's dad John has admitted he is unsure if the champion will accept a showdown with Anthony Joshua.
Fury was set to meet Joshua's former two-time conqueror at Wembley Stadium on April 29 in a battle for all the heavyweight belts after it appeared a breakthrough had finally been made in talks. However after multiple public demands from the WBC champion on social media, Usyk elected to walk away from negotiations and now the fight has been shelved.
Fury has yet to decide where his future lies, and could even hang up his gloves, but one contest which has been proposed is a potential renewed meeting with Joshua, who Fury looked set to meet last year before the clash was derailed when his rival missed the contract deadline.
Although it could be revisited, Fury Sr believes it may well be a tough job convincing his son Tyson to look at other fights after losing out on his undisputed tilt with Usyk. "I don't know but they had the chance and you can see what Tyson is like and how he is and he gave them that chance," he told Mirror Fighting courtesy of FreeBets.com
"If you don't take it he thinks I have made a shed load of money you either fight or you don't. You can never say never but to be boxing Anthony Joshua, it is no different to Joe Joyce really. Because it is not a unification bout and it is just getting your head around it and I just think there was one fight in Tyson's mind. That was the unification bout and I just have a feeling Usyk will fight Wilder in Saudi.
"But for me personally I wasn't interested in them guys at all. I was interested in Usyk and him becoming undisputed, and for me it is like being promised a Ferrari and getting an escort and I can't get up for them fights let alone Tyson. I can only advise him and lead him to the water but I can't drink it."
Fury could now face another frustrating period out of the ring having fought in a keep-busy event last December when he stopped Derek Chisora. He may now not return until the summer with a potential contest against Joe Joyce on the cards given they are part of the same stable, providing 'The Juggernaut' beats Zhilei Zhang.
Despite Fury Sr's stance, Joshua made a call to Fury to make the fight after defeating Jermaine Franklin on Saturday night at London's O2 arena. He shouted at the final bell in his interview: "Well the ball's in his court. I 100 per cent would be honoured to compete for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world. I stand here and say that proudly, that would be an honour.
"So wherever you are if you're listening you know my management, you know my promoter, we've had dialogue before so let's hopefully get this on sooner than later. "We're not getting any younger! I can't wait to get back to Texas, develop and push on because there's a bigger fight. I can't wait to get the next big fight."
