Tyson Fury's close protection provided by Welsh bodyguards

He might be 6ft 9ins and the heavyweight champion of the world but Tyson Fury still needs a team of bodyguards around him. And after beating Dillian Whyte to retain his WBC heavyweight title on Saturday night the Gypsy King was quick to thank his close protection team from Wales.

He shared a picture on Instagram of him with five members of Lyons Den Security and Promotion, who are based in Pontyclun, celebrating the win. Images on the company's Facebook page show he has used the protection team in the past. They worked for the boxer on his tour of the UK in 2019 and when his father John brought his tour to Cardiff and Swansea they also provided the security.

When Tyson Fury fought Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas last year Brendan Lyons, who is listed as the company director, was part of the loyal 11-man team who worked behind the scenes in the build up to the headlining fight. The Sun described him as Fury’s "personal bodyguard". They said: "He is never far away from the undefeated champ and is clearly a very trusted member of the team. The safety specialist has refrained from any interviews so remains a bit of a mystery man."

The company has close links with the boxing world and has also provided protection for Floyd Mayweather and Frank Bruno. They have also shared pictures of working with former footballer Paul Merson and rugby players James Hook, Adam Jones, and Ryan Jones.

After Fury's on Saturday night he told the post-fight conference that he wants to come to Cardiff in the autumn. He said he wants to fight Scottish wrestler Drew McIntyre at the recently-announced WWE event at Cardiff's Principality Stadium.

The Gypsy King was asked if he would be at the September wrestling event, which will be the first major WWE stadium event to be held in the UK since 1992. Fury replied: "Don't rule me out of fighting there."
