Tyson Fury laughs off fans’ fears over his apparent weight gain

Tyson Fury has laughed off comments about his weight gain over the New Year by joking he has never been "in shape".

Fans voiced their concern over Fury's size after a recent training video emerged of him sparring with fellow top heavyweight Joseph Parker.

One user wrote: "Understand why Fury doesn’t want to fight Dillian Whyte he has gained some real weight."

And a second added: "Fury looking well out of shape again even for his non defined physique."

But 'The Gypsy King' has laughed off the comments about his body by stating he has always looked out of shape.

"I don't remember ever looking in shape," Fury wrote. "They say he looks out of shape! I say I've never been in shape!"

Fury has repeatedly joked about his physique during his successful boxing career, whilst poking fun at his opponents who sport muscular frames.

The WBC titleholder reposted a picture earlier this month that showed muscly heavyweights Deontay Wilder and Wladimir Klitschko alongside an out of shape Fury.

"Explaining the current heavyweight division to non-boxing people is a real treat," the tweet read, accompanied by a side-by-side of the trio.

"'So yeah, the guy in the middle beat the other two and uh... um...'"

Fury weighed over 400lbs when he took three years away from the ring after winning the unified heavyweight titles against Klitschko in 2015.

He descended into a drink and drug-fuelled depression, crediting large consumptions of alcohol and fast food for his rapid weight gain.

But 'The Gypsy King' turned his life around by losing over 100lbs for his comeback fight against Sefer Seferi in 2018.

Fury's father weighed in on his son's appearance when speaking after Tommy Fury's fifth professional win last year.

"Can I just say one thing on national television. Forget how my son looks, if he trained for the next 10 years his body would be the same," he told BT Sport.

"Let me tell you something now, he's as strong as three men. He can run 25 miles like he is, he's a strong man. I'm fat, look here, fat as a pig.

"Forget shape, because if shape done any good there'd be more bodybuilders winning world titles wouldn't they."

Fury is expected to defend his WBC title against Dillian Whyte in the coming months, with the purse bids for the fight taking place this Friday.

But the Brit's promoter, Bob Arum, admitted there is still a possibility an undisputed title fight could be made between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk after receiving an offer from the Middle East.
