Tyson Fury issues sarcastic response to Dillian Whyte signing fight contract

Tyson Fury has reacted with mock surprise to Dillian Whyte signing his contract to challenge for the heavyweight world title.

Whyte had until 6am this morning to agree to face Fury at Wembley on April 23.

He finally put pen to paper with just hours to spare - although there remains one outstanding tax issue to be resolved.

And Fury, who has been relentless in calling out his opponent in recent weeks, made it clear Whyte had no option but to sign.

"Oh my God, Dillian Whyte has signed his contract for $8million, what a surprise," he said on social media. "What an absolute idiot, should this even be a talking point?

"The man has signed for the biggest pay day he's ever going to get in his life.

"Oh my God, my head hurts from all the mind games Dillian Whyte has been playing on me. Oh my God, I don't know whether I'm coming or going; my training camp's a mess."

Almost four weeks have passed since Fury's promoters Frank Warren and Bob Arum won the purse bid to stage the fight with a record-breaking £31m bid.

Fury will receive 80 per cent of that when he puts his belt on the line for the second time.

The giant Traveller has not fought in the United Kingdom since beating Francesco Pianeta in Belfast in August 2018.

The 33-year-old’s last five fights have been held in the United States, including his trilogy with Deontay Wilder.

He will aim to beat Whyte to set up an undisputed fight with the winner of Oleksandr Usyk's rematch with Anthony Joshua which is due to take place in May.

Fury had opened talks with Joshua over stepping aside to allow the former to face Usyk for all four belts in his next fight.

But talks broke down jut days before the purse bid with Fury resigned to facing mandatory challenger Whyte instead.

Whyte has remained silent since the bid with Warren and Arum claiming the Londoner has demanded more money to play his part in promoting the fight.

An official announcement - and a first head-to-head meeting - is expected this week.
