Tyson Fury fans convinced heavyweight will fight again after latest retirement claim

Tyson Fury has reiterated his plan to retire from boxing - but his fans are utterly unconvinced.

Fury stopped Dillian Whyte at Wembley last month to retain his heavyweight world title before insisting he will hang up his gloves. The Brit will hold talks with the WBC in the coming days over whether he plans to relinquish the belt he won from Deontay Wilder in 20202.

Fury claims he is willing to return for exhibition bouts against the likes of UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, but that he will not add to his 33 professional boxing bouts. And in a video posted to social media, he said: "Just finished a lovely four-mile run along the promenad and got a great sweat on. I'm very, very happy and content to be retired. It's been a long time coming, I'm so much enjoying my retirement."

Fans immediately responded by claiming Fury was fooling no-one. "He is shaking his head side to side when he saying he retiring," wrote one. "Not even his body language believes him." Another fan added: "I give it six months until you'll be calling everyone bums again," while another said: "Sounds like you're trying to convince yourself there."

Fury has twice reigned as heavyweight champion but insists he does not need to become the undisputed ruler to cement his legacy as one of the greatest of all times. He came close to agreeing terms with then champion Anthony Joshua last summer before the deal fell apart at the 11th hour.

Joshua will attempt to win back his belts against Oleksandr Usyk in July, but Fury insists he has no desire to face the winner for all four titles. Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored on TalkTV last week, he said: “This is the truth, the gospel truth, nothing but the truth – I’m done.

Will Tyson Fury fight again? Let us know in the comments section below

“Every good dog has its day. Like a great Roman leader said, there will always be somebody else to fight. When is enough enough? I’m happy, I’m healthy, I’ve still got my brains, I can still talk. I’ve got a beautiful wife, I’ve got six kids. I’ve got umpteen belts, I’ve got plenty of money. I’ve got success, fame, glory. What more am I doing it for?

“Boxing’s a very dangerous sport, you can be taken out with one punch as we’ve seen on Saturday night, and it only takes one unlucky blow and you may not get up off that canvas. I’m quitting while I’m ahead. I’m undefeated, only the second man in history to retire undefeated heavyweight champion.

“I’m very, very happy and very content in my heart with what I’ve done, what I’ve achieved. It’s not about money for me. A lot of people in this world, everything is about money, and more money and more money. I’ve got enough money. I’ve got enough of everything I need."
