Tyson Fury claims to have been offered the chance to buy struggling League One side Morecambe.
Heavyweight world champion Fury announced earlier this season that he had agreed a sponsorship deal with his local side - but could not take his investment to a new level. The Shrimpers are currently rooted to the bottom of the third tier after winning just one of their opening 13 league games.
But Fury could ride to their rescue after revealing he is considering spending some of his huge fortune. Appearing on talkSPORT alongside former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan, Fury said: “Quick question, I’m thinking about buying Morecambe Football Club, they’re in League One at the moment. So I was thinking I invest X amount of millions in them."
He went on to say, "Yeah, basically throw it at them and keep them going up. I own all the training facilities anyway and the training gym. So who knows? You might be looking at a football club owner. I’ve been offered to buy Morecambe Football Club."
Fury, 34, is originally from Manchester but has been based in Morecambe for much of his boxing career. When he agreed to sponsor the club's shorts, he said: "Big announcement – the Gypsy King has just sponsored my local club, Morecambe Football Club. Let’s have a fantastic season and smash it. Come on the boys! And the girls!"
Morecambe’s head of commercial Martin Thomas said: "Tyson is a fantastic ambassador for the Morecambe area and it’s fantastic to have him on board. Tyson is one of the most recognisable names in the world of sport, and will bring worldwide recognition to the club."

At the time, Fury insisted he had retired from boxing following his stoppage win over Dillian Whyte in April. But he has since confirmed he will return to the ring against Derek Chisora for what will be a trilogy bout in December.
Fury had planned to fight fellow world champion Oleksandr Usyk before the end of the year but the Ukrainian revealed he will not be ready until February or March. Fury then turned his attention to Anthony Joshua but was unable to agree terms with his fellow Brit.
