Tyson Fury has joked Liz Truss was in power for almost as long as his short-lived retirement from the ring.
Fury claimed to have hung up his gloves following his seventh-round stoppage win over Dillian Whyte in April, but has now announced he will return against Derek Chisora in December. And while he was taking part in a press conference with his heavyweight rival, Truss announced she was stepping down after just 44 days in the top job.
"She's stepped down? Has she? That was almost as brief as Tyson Fury's retirement that one," Fury joked when talking to BT Sport after the press conference. There will be 224 days between Fury's two fights, with today's official confirmation coming 180 days after he stopped Whyte.
Fury has opted to face Chisora on December 3 after the collapse of negotiations for a prospective domestic showdown with Anthony Joshua. The bout against Chisora, whom Fury previously beat in 2011 and 2014, will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
And Fury claims he will never retire again, and could have as many as 10 more fights. “I ain’t going anywhere. I had retirement for four or five months and I didn’t like what I tasted,” Fury told talkSPORT. “I have everything the world has to offer and that to me is not interesting.
"The only thing that really gets me going is boxing, fighting and training. I don’t think I can be involved in an environment of training every single day like a lunatic and not have a goal at the end of it. I’m finding this really hard to let this thing go,” he said.

“When I walked in April, God knows I really meant what I was saying. I could’ve put my hand on a bible and meant what I said at the time. There was no doubt in my mind. I would’ve passed any polygraph test in the world. But, having four months of retirement, I know it’s not for me.
“There are no goals for me in boxing anymore. I’m doing this because it is the only thing I know. It is what makes me tick."
