Tyson Fury accuses Dillian Whyte of ‘waving the white flag’ with press conference no-show

Tyson Fury has accused Dillian Whyte of waving the white flag in the build-up to their world heavyweight title fight after failing to show up to a press conference at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday.

The British boxers were set to go face to face for the first time ahead of their WBC title showdown on April 23 but Whyte opted to stay at his training camp in Portugal.

And Fury said: “He’s definitely shown the white flag today. He’s given me that much more confidence. It’s fear, it’s terror. I don’t blame him for not being here today.”

The 33-year-old is returning to British soil for the first time in nearly four years to take on Whyte but warned the Brixton fighter would be no match for him on his UK comeback.

Rebranding him “Frillian Whyteknickers” ahead of the fight – tickets for which go on sale at midday on Wednesday, he said: “The only thing he’s ever won is a British title. There’s a gulf in class here.

“He’s getting the biggest pay day of his life. How many £250,000 can you fit into £8million – 32 times his biggest payday. He should be here today kissing my feet and washing my feet. He’s very lucky that he’s in my era. He’s very lucky to be receiving this amount of money.”

Fury last fought in the UK back in 2018 and since then has boxed five times in the United States, including his trilogy of fights against Deontay Wilder.

“It’s been an absolute rollercoaster of a ride,” he said of his fights across the Atlantic. “I just feel like the boys are back in town. Four years away and I get to come back and showcase on the world’s biggest stage.

“This is the biggest heavyweight fight since Lewis-Bruno – an all-British show for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world. Both fighters are going for the knockout.

“I’m confident, I’m very, very overconfident. There’s not even 1 per cent doubt I’m not going to annihilate Dillian Whyte. I believe I can beat Dillian Whyte with one hand tied behind my back and one foot off the floor.

“I’m looking to show the people how good I am. What better opponent than a man calling for the fight for 352 years. He finally gets his shot on the biggest stage against the biggest champion. I will not fail.”
