Eddie Hearn has blamed Tyson Fury for the collapse of a deal for him to face Oleksandr Usyk while branding him a "walking contradiction".
Talks were ongoing for Anthony Joshua to step-aside from a rematch with Usyk to allow the WBC champion Fury to have a shot at becoming undisputed champion.
However it now looks likely Fury will face Whyte next after the deal collapsed with purse bids expected to take place on Friday after several delays.
Joshua's promoter Hearn has placed blame on Fury for the clash and has claimed that the champion wanted an interim fight before staging any undisputed tilt with Usyk.
"I have no idea to be honest with you," Hearn told Mirror Fighting on the heavyweight situation. "There is purse bids due to take place for Fury Whyte tomorrow and I expect those to take place.
"There was talks of these four fighters doing different things, but Fury didn’t really want to fight Usyk straight off the bat he wanted an interim fight. It looks like that will now be Dillian Whyte and we will see what happens with that tomorrow.
“He is the king of contradiction, one minute AJ is a coward for accepting step-aside then he is an idiot for not accepting $90 million. Which one is it? But Dillian Whyte is more than happy to face Tyson Fury.
"AJ is more than happy to fight Usyk. But people were pushing ideas to us that could have made sense but the wording was incorrect so we all need to now just move on."
Joshua was reported to have been ready to accept an offer worth £15 million to step-aside and allow an undisputed fight with an eye on the winner later this year.
However the former two-time champion has always been keen to secure redemption by facing Usyk and immediately activated the rematch clause in the aftermath of defeat.

A deal was also made complex by Whyte demanding that he finally gets his WBC title shot and would also require a step-aside deal after being ordered late last year.
Hearn now expects Fury and Whyte to proceed with purse bids on Friday and has admitted that Joshua never made any "non-formal" agreement to step aside.
“Joshua hasn’t signed any non-formal agreement, I am interested in looking to take the best opportunity for him to fight the winner of that fight to determine the best heavyweight in the world for a lot of money," Hearn continued.
"We are very happy and AJ would prefer to face Usyk straight off the bat. But as everyone was getting in order Tyson Fury killed the deal anyway so he will now go and fight Dillian Whyte."
