Despite the Los Angeles Clippers' recent elimination from the NBA playoffs, head coach Tyronn Lue remains committed to his future with the team. The Clippers were knocked out of the playoffs after a 114-101 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on May 3.
Reports from The Athletic suggest that the Clippers are planning to pursue a contract extension with Lue during the upcoming offseason. Following the team's recent loss, Lue expressed his desire to stay with the Clippers, stating, 'I hope so. I didn't come here to bounce around and go all over the place.'
Lue highlighted his positive relationship with Clippers ownership and the front office, mentioning key figures like Mr. Ballmer, Lawrence Frank, Mark Hughes, Trent Redden, and Gillian Zucker. He emphasized his desire to remain with the team and his appreciation for the support he has received.
While there have been speculations linking Lue to the Los Angeles Lakers, who recently parted ways with coach Darvin Ham, Lue chose not to comment directly on the matter. He expressed his gratitude for being wanted but reiterated his commitment to the Clippers.
With two years remaining on his contract, Lue reflected on the challenges faced by the Clippers this season, particularly the absence of star forward Kawhi Leonard in key games due to injury. Despite the setbacks, Lue commended his team for their resilience and determination throughout the season.
Lue, who previously coached the Cleveland Cavaliers to an NBA title in 2016, took over as head coach of the Clippers after Doc Rivers' departure. Under Lue's leadership, the Clippers have achieved a 184-134 record in the regular season and reached the Western Conference finals in his first season.
Looking ahead, Lue expressed optimism for the future, stating, 'This was a good year. I like the guys in the locker room. They respect me. I respect them. I'm ready to move on to next season and get better.'
