Tyrone vs Kildare: Game goes ahead after Healy Park passes inspection

This afternoon’s Allianz Football League Division One game between Tyrone and Kildare has been been given the green light following an early morning pitch inspection at Healy Park.

Concerns had been raised about the Omagh venue after heavy rain overnight and early morning and Tyrone officials are understood to have put St Malachy's GAC, Edendork on standby.

Despite the poor weather, the pitch has been deemed playable and the clash between the All-Ireland champions and the Lilywhites is also due to be broadcast live by TG4 with throw-in at 3.45pm.

The Red Hands are down to the bare bones for the third round clash with four key players ruled out through suspension.

Captain Padraig Hampsey, Footballer of the Year Kieran McGeary, Michael McKernan and Peter Harte were sent off following a late melee at the end of the round two defeat to Armagh in the Athletic Grounds earlier this month.

Referee David Gough also dismissed Armagh defender Greg McCabe and all five players had their red cards upheld by the Central Hearings Committee during the week.

It is understood that Tyrone will also be without the experienced Mattie Donnelly for today’s clash due to a shoulder injury while the meeting with Glenn Ryan’s side might come too soon for full-back Ronan McNamee.

Meanwhile, Cavan’s Division Four tie against Sligo at Markievicz Park has been postponed due to the bad weather.

Sunday's game between Leitrim and London has been moved to the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence with an earlier throw-in time of 1pm.

Yesterday’s Division Three fixture between Fermanagh and Longford, due to be played at Brewster Park, was also postponed.
